Pearls of wisdom from Kenrick

Pearl Window Systems has switched to Kenrick to supply its high security Centurion Fast-Fit shootbolt. The Bolton-based fabricator is now using the Kenrick system on virtually every PVC-u window it manufactures.

Having reviewed several systems on the market, Pearl was attracted to the Centurion Fast-Fit “non crop” shootbolt because it offers the very highest levels of security combined with ease of fitting. The company extensively trialled the product and found that it was extremely quick and simple to install, enabling Pearl to maximise profit margins without compromising on quality.

Jeff Walsh, managing director of Pearl Window Systems, said: “We were looking for a quality shootbolt mechanism that was quicker and easier to fit than the system we had been previously using. The Centurion Fast-Fit system was by far the best that we reviewed. It also comes with a comprehensive security backed guarantee scheme for total peace of mind. We also had a great deal of confidence in Kenrick, which has a good reputation for quality, service and value for money.”

To further support Pearl, Kenrick has developed a personalised, jargon-free product leaflet which is aimed at the homeowner.

Centurion Fast-Fit is an extremely reliable shootbolt, which locks each window with up to eight points on its opening side. It utilises a corner keep with a cam and high strength steel rods which fit into keeps at the top and bottom of the window. Each sash benefits from a robust unhanded die-cast central gearbox (20mm or 22mm backset) with extended actuator arms, which accommodate an adjustable mushroom cam close to the gearbox.

The Centurion Fast-Fit system is BBA approved and has been successfully tested to more than 100,000 operations of opening and closing the window. It has also been successfully tested to more than 240 hours of intense salt based corrosion to exceed the requirements of BS7412.

Pearl Window Systems was established in 1999 and manufactures a wide range of PVC-u and aluminium products at its 50,000 square feet premises in Bolton. The company employs 110 staff and fabricates 1800 frames a week. Despite tough market conditions, Pearl has ambitious growth plans and is set to expand its premises to help the company fabricate 2000 frames a week in 2012.

Archibald Kenrick & Sons Ltd was founded in West Bromwich in the Black Country in 1791 and has occupied the same site ever since. During the Industrial Revolution, the business became one of the country’s foremost cast iron manufacturers, something which continued for over 150 years. In the late 1940s, technological advances meant that Kenrick modernised rapidly, introducing new manufacturing techniques such as die-casting and injection moulding. Similar but evolved techniques are still used by Kenrick today.

Kenrick currently offers a variety of products for the furniture, door and window industries including castors, locking systems, handles and hinges. The majority of these products are either made on site in West Bromwich or at their overseas factories to a high standard. The design and innovation is carried out by Kenrick’s own experienced team.

In 1990, Kenrick became part of the Spire Group. It remains committed to investing in research and development, modern production techniques, new product launches and plans significant expansion over the coming years
