Kenrick’s Centurion fast-fit awarded SBD license

The Centurion Fast-Fit high security window locking system from leading hardware manufacturer Kenrick has been awarded the coveted Secured by Design (SBD) license.

This “non crop” shootbolt, which has up to eight locking points to make it a very reliable method of securing the homeowner’s property, is one of many from Kenrick that carries a Secured by Design licence. The certification is based on BS7950.

Since its launch in 2010, the Centurion Fast-Fit system has rapidly become popular with installers and homeowners alike. To support the installer and reassure the homeowner, Kenrick has also developed an easy to understand product leaflet for the Centurion Fast-Fit system, which is aimed at the end user.

Designed with the fitter firmly in mind, Centurion Fast-Fit is quicker and easier to install than ever before, enabling fabricators to significantly increase profitability, without compromising on quality. A corner keep with a cam and high strength steel rods which fit into keeps at the top and bottom of the window provide the homeowner with a reliable, adaptable and cost effective locking solution.

Each sash benefits from a robust unhanded die-cast central gearbox (20mm or 22mm backset) with extended actuator arms. The arms accommodate an adjustable mushroom cam close to the gearbox. The cam moves in opposing directions to provide adequate compression and security at the centre of the window.

The actuator also incorporates one of the seven steel shootbolt rods. The return of the rod is positioned at the corner of the sash and is held in place with a steel cover plate. On the frame side, a corner keep is fitted on each side and two mushroom keeps are fitted centrally.

The Centurion Fast-Fit system is BBA approved and has been successfully tested to more than 100,000 operations of opening and closing the window. It has also been successfully tested to more than 240 hours of intense salt based corrosion to exceed the requirements of BS7412.

Other Kenrick high security systems that carry an SBD licence include the Excalibur door lock, the Excalibur window lock, the Centurion shootbolt, Easi-Fit, Sentrilock and the Excalibur RASP cylinder.

Archibald Kenrick & Sons Ltd was founded in West Bromwich in the Black Country in 1791 and has occupied the same site ever since. During the Industrial Revolution, the business became one of the country’s foremost cast iron manufacturers, something which continued for over 150 years. In the late 1940s, technological advances meant that Kenrick modernised rapidly, introducing new manufacturing techniques such as die-casting and injection moulding. Similar but evolved techniques are still used by Kenrick today.

Kenrick currently offers a variety of products for the furniture, door and window industries including castors, locking systems, handles and hinges. The majority of these products are either made on site in West Bromwich or at their overseas factories to a high standard. The design and innovation is carried out by Kenrick’s own experienced team.

In 1990, Kenrick became part of the Spire Group. It remains committed to investing in research and development, modern production techniques, new product launches and plans significant expansion over the coming years
