Senior's Fantastic Four

Four of the main curtail wall systems provided by Senior Architectural Systems now carry CWCT test approvals.

The most recent addition has been the Hybrid curtain wall system which was tested in the form of a two storey test sample at the Taylor Woodrow Technology Centre at Leighton Buzzard earlier in the year. This is Europe's largest cladding test centre based across a 13 acre site and prides itself on exceptional standards.

The hybrid curtain wall system is part of a complete timber/aluminium suite of systems for use in commercial applications. Hybrid combines engineered timber internally for structural strength and insulation with high performance aluminium externally. The aluminium profiles allow for complex waterproof joints to be achieved and offer exceptional life expectancy.

In 2007 three of Senior's aluminium curtain wall systems, the SCW+, SMR900 and SMR800 were also tested as two storey test samples at the Taylor Woodrow Technology Centre and passed with flying colours which is a testament to good design and installation. These three systems offer specifiers the choice of economic low rise or more advanced high rise curtain wall systems.

All systems achieved CWCT test passes when tested in accordance with Schedule 'B' of the standard, which encompasses BS EN 13830:2003. All systems achieved; 600 Pa for air permeability, 600 Pa for watertightness (static & dynamic), 2400 Pa for wind resistance (serviceability) and 3600 Pa for wind resistance (safety). In addition the systems were also subject to, and passed, a 'Field Hose Test' in accordance with CWCT Section 7 and AAMA 501.2:1994.

All systems were being tested to confirm that the the performance levels designed into the systems by Senior's technical team could be achieved and indeed exceeded. Derek Hodgson, Senior's Technical Manager explains, "We were undertaking development tests not specific project tests, even though you can still loose a lot of sleep when putting a systems on test! If testing does not go to plan and further development work needs to be undertaken it can be quite an expensive affair at several thousand pounds a week just to have your sample on site! Our designs were rewarded with test passes with few very issues being raised during testing."

Copies of the test reports are available upon request to Senior's technical department.
