CWG choices achieves secured by design approval with Kenrick Systems

Leading trade fabricator and Kenrick hardware user CWG Choices Ltd has been awarded the coveted Secured by Design (SBD) license for its doors and windows

The license follows hot on the heels of CWG Choices’ certification under the BM TRADA Certification Ltd Q-Mark scheme for Enhanced Security Windows and Doors. The certification is based on BS7412, BS6375, BS7950 and PAS 23/24.

CWG Choices used Kenrick’s recently developed Excalibur RASP snap and bump resistant cylinder system, which it supplies as an optional extra to customers, to achieve the challenging PAS 23/24 accreditation. The lock comfortably withstood a sustained three minute attack from a selection of tools, including a Stanley knife, mole grips and a crow bar.

Excalibur RASP is independently tested by the Master Locksmith Association for BSI. It was the first cylinder available on the market to be kitemark approved and to have achieved full accreditation for the stringent PAS 24 standard, including the new clause 11a that covers severe physical attack on the lock cylinder. It has also been awarded Secured By Design accreditation and meets BS 3621: 2007.

To achieve BS7950 accreditation, CWG Choices used Kenrick’s Easi-Fit dual claw locking security system - the standard on all CWG windows. CWG Choices Ltd has successfully been using the Kenrick Easi-Fit system on its windows for some time. It is reliable and cost effective and benefits from bi-directional claws and opposing mushroom cams to provide greater security and enhanced weather performance.

Jason Wilder, CWG Choices’ Director, says: “We’re naturally delighted to achieve SBD approval, which marks out wholehearted commitment to provide high quality, secure systems to our growing customer base. Having used Kenrick for many years, we were confident that their products were the best to help us achieve the necessary accreditations. We’re really looking forward to growing and developing our business as a result of this latest coup.”

Mike Hill, Kenrick’s Business Development Director, added: “Secured by Design is a challenging accreditation to achieve and we are very pleased that CWG Choices has met the requirements with the help of not one, but two of our systems. Without doubt, the accreditation offers tangible benefits in an ever increasingly tough marketplace, where high standards and security are paramount considerations for hard pressed salesman and homeowners alike. CWG Choices certainly offer these benefits along with an excellent and diverse product range.”

Archibald Kenrick & Sons Ltd was founded in West Bromwich in the Black Country in 1791 and has occupied the same site ever since. During the Industrial Revolution, the business became one of the country’s foremost cast iron manufacturers, something which continued for over 150 years. In the late 1940s, technological advances meant that Kenrick modernised rapidly, introducing new manufacturing techniques such as die-casting and injection moulding. Similar but evolved techniques are still used by Kenrick today.

Kenrick currently offers a variety of products for the furniture, door and window industries including castors, locking systems, handles and hinges. The majority of these products are either made on site in West Bromwich or at their overseas factories to a high standard. The design and innovation is carried out by Kenrick’s own experienced team.

In 1990, Kenrick became part of the Spire Group. It remains committed to investing in research and development, modern production techniques, new product launches and plans significant expansion over the coming years
