Oakland Glass Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of the Oakland Glass Academy at this year’s FIT Show, to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to best practice in glass through the development of its team.
“There has been no lack of press coverage on the skills shortage faced by the construction sector, and closer to home, the glazing industry,” says Tina Moorhouse, Managing Director of Oakland Glass Ltd. “The important thing now is what we do about it. The Oakland Glass Academy encompasses all the good work we already do to develop our people. This includes a retraining program of all staff covering the standardisation of processes across the site and on different shifts, apprenticeships, the introduction of a new role in business support with one big focus being training and development, and a programme of Management NVQ’s. But the Academy’s ultimate purpose will be to attract, train and retain the best talent.
“We will be celebrating 33 years in business this year, so there’s not much we haven’t weathered in terms of highs and lows in our industry and the wider economy which is why we’re confident we can meet this latest challenge head on. And we’re proud that through the tough times and the good, we have kept our focus where it matters, very firmly on quality. Quality products, quality service and to make both of those possible, quality people. It’s why 100% of our employees are employed directly and are actively encouraged to develop their skills to ensure they play an integral part in continuously improving the business.
“We’re launching the Oakland Glass Academy at the FIT Show and look forward to talking to people about this and more on stand A6 over the three days.”
