Leighton Buzzard-based Profile 22 fabricator Unicorn Windows Ltd. has recently completed a prestigious two-phase refurbishment project at Whipsnade Zoo.
The company replaced ageing aluminium windows and doors in the Zoo’s administration block with state of the art custom-designed PVC-U windows and doors manufactured from Profile 22’s FC60 60mm fully chamfered system.
A total of 70 energy efficient window frames and doors were fitted by the company to help solve problems with condensation and temperature control in the building which houses the Zoo’s administrative team.
The project lasted six weeks, including survey, window design and installation phases, all carried out by Unicorn. The large windows, which made up the majority of the installation, incorporated ‘slatted’ foiled PVC-U panels that resembled timber panelling for a more natural effect, designed to be in keeping with the Zoo’s ‘wild’ surroundings.
Bob Fox, Unicorn Windows’ works manager, said: “Our task was to ensure the Zoo’s admin block was not only thermally efficient and easy to maintain, but fitted in with the general look and feel of the zoo. By using Profile 22’s foiled product range we were able to achieve these criteria and satisfy both the client and, hopefully, the animals.”
Unicorn Windows supplies a complete range of exterior home improvement products, including windows, doors and conservatories, to retail, commercial and trade markets.
