Winkhaus AV2-E automatic locks provide ‘peace of mind’ for residents

Eight Winkhaus AV2-E automatic locks are providing uprated security with ‘peace of mind’ and added convenience for residents of a Bolton luxury apartment complex where new composite entrance doors have been installed.

The new Solidor Milano composite doors were installed by Winkhaus customer Fenster Trade Frames at the Thomasson Court Apartments. Replacing original timber doors that were rotting and insecure, the new ones are finished in Anthracite Grey with 1,800mm brushed stainless steel pull bar handles and Stipolyte/Obscure glass.

Andy Dempsey, Fenster Trade Frames Managing Director says they specified the Winkhaus AV2-E locks ‘because we have used them for several years now and are really happy with the product’.

“This type of lock worked well for Thomasson Court Apartments, as the slam- shut capability ensures the door is very secure, yet it can be electronically opened using the key fobs, touch free pads and the intercom. This provides excellent convenience in a communal property,” says Andy.

Key factors for the project’s success, he says, were careful pre-planning and liaison with Thomasson Court’s management team on when and where the eight doors would be installed. The whole project went smoothly and was completed in five days, giving everyone ‘peace of mind’.

Andy adds: “The Director insisted on the better security provided by a Solidor composite door and Winkhaus lock as they were aware of the products’ performance on homes within his family. Low maintenance was an additional benefit they had recognised too.”

For Anoop Seera, a Director of Thomasson Court, the communal entrance doors were changed because the existing doors were coming to the end of their useful lives and repair costs were rising; ‘therefore a change was needed to ensure there was not a total failure of a door’.

The main requirements when selecting the new doors were straightforward; the doors had be very secure, look secure and also be interoperable with electronic access systems so that secure fobs could be used instead of traditional keys.

He adds: “The selection of Solidor was therefore a relatively simple one as Fenster know Solidor products well and I chose Fenster as they were able to assure me that the vision I had for Thomasson Court could be realised, which ultimately has happened.”

According to Mike Rushen, Winkhaus UK’s National Sales Manager, the versatility of the AV2-E lock offers a range of benefits for both door fabricators and their customers.

Mike continues: “Door fabricators have been confidently using our original autoLock AV2 & blueMatic AV2-E locks for a number of years. The AV2 range is extremely adaptable; it can be specified with several faceplate and backset options. It is also available with or without a deadbolt to suit both residential and communal entrance doors.”

Winkhaus autolocks are suitable for all types of doors - from PVC-U, to timber, aluminium and composite materials. Mike adds: “This level of flexibility and breadth of application is unique in the marketplace for an automatic multi-point locking system – and, of course, is the result of enormous investment!”
