The latest figures from the BMF’s Builders Merchants Building Index (BMBI) confirmed a strong start to 2017 with a further three months of growth in the sales of building materials through UK generalist builders’ merchants in Q1. The relatively mild and dry weather throughout first quarter of the year helped to produce 5.9% total sales growth on Q1 2016.
The Builders Merchants Building Index (BMBI) tracks builders’ merchants’ actual sales to builders and contractors using GfK’s Builders’ Merchant Point of Sale Tracking Data. The BMBI represents over 80% of the value of the builders' merchants' market.
Q1 2017 highlights:
- +5.9% on Q1 2016 (+2.6% when adjusted for trading days)
- +5.1% on Q4 2016 2017 (-1.5% when adjusted for trading days)
- +11.4% March 2017 v March 2016 (+1.7% when adjusted for trading days)
