Mealey Architectural Facades (MAF) Ltd, based in Carlow, SE Ireland, is the latest customer to benefit from the fact that Emmegi (UK) has a dedicated specialist sales and service team based in the country.
Emmegi’s Sales Manager Jim O’Connell and Service Engineer Lukasz Szulc helped the team at MAF choose and install a long bed Satellite XT machining centre to replace one of their existing 3 axis models.
MAF had originally contacted Emmegi (UK) because they were considering purchasing a top of the range Quadra machine to increase the functionality available in their factory, but Jim was able to advise them that the Satellite XT was the model which actually better matched their requirements.
The 5-axis, 10.5m mobile gantry machining centre can both cut and prep profiles in a similar way to the Quadra, but can also accommodate the complex, oversized curtain walling profiles which make up a large proportion of what MAF fabricates.
The 10.5m long bed on the Satellite XT also allows the positioning of the clamps to be done separately from the gantry so that different workpieces can be machined at the same time in two work areas, or one end loaded or unloaded while the machine is operating at the other.
MAF looked at similar machining centres from a number of different suppliers but preferred the quality and robustness of the Emmegi models over the alternatives.
However, Alan Murphy, Managing Director at Mealey, said that the critical factor in making the choice of machine was the presence of Emmegi’s Irish based team: “We’re a high end, bespoke manufacturer with the emphasis on quality and reliability. Service is very important to us and we were looking for a machinery partner who could guarantee a very high level of service and support.
“During the installation of the machine, we were really impressed with Lukasz’ expertise and the speed and efficiency of the whole project.”
MAF has retained one of its two 3 axis machines in its 12000 sq ft facility which will continue to operate alongside the Satellite XT. Alan Murphy added: “Mealey Architectural Facades has grown very quickly over the past three years since it was established as a separate business from Mealey Construction. It was important for us to increase capacity and functionality and also to effectively future proof our investment, ready for the next stage in our growth.”
Mealey Architectural Facades produces bespoke curtain walling, structural glazing and planar glazing facades for the fast growing Irish commercial construction sector. It fabricates in Reynaers, APA, Schuco and Jansen systems. Its success in the Irish market means it is poised to enter the UK market shortly.
