Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has supplied more than 100 of its high-performance insulating glass units (IGUs) to an exclusive, new build apartment development in Essex for Weston Homes.
The contract, which sees Pilkington collaborate with windows and doors manufacturer Emplas and window installation specialist Portico, specifies Pilkington energiKare™ Advantage units for its energy-efficient properties, which see the IGUs achieve triple-glazing performance with only two panes of glass.
The units achieve an impressive centre pane U-value of just 0.9W/m2k, helping to meet Weston Homes’ requirements for installed windows to have a U-value of 1.2W/m2K.
Designed to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient windows, Pilkington energiKare™ products help to improve the thermal efficiency of homes.
Through the use of advanced coatings and a range of glass combinations, Pilkington energiKare™ IGUs minimise heat loss and allow more of the sun’s energy to enter the property. It is this free energy from the sun that helps homeowners to reduce fuel bills.
The IGUs have been installed into 86 windows and 24 patio doors in the five-storey development, which is part of the Highbanks scheme by Weston Homes in Southend-on-Sea.
John Spiby, national sales manager – domestic products at Pilkington, said: “Energy efficiency is an increasingly important factor for many specifiers, especially in the development of high-end residential properties, such as the Highbanks development.
“The use of Pilkington energiKare™ Advantage IGUs means homeowners will receive superior thermal performance, so they can benefit from the sort of energy and cost savings previously associated only with expensive triple-glazing. The solution we’ve been able to provide with Emplas is a winning ticket for sustainability in new-builds.”
Ryan Johnson, managing director at Emplas, added:,em> “The new build sector has been focussed on improved energy efficiency for a long time and the doors and windows we’re supplying into it are being specified to increasing levels of performance.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Pilkington and through continued collaboration we have been able to supply a highly competitive window and door offer into the new build sector.”
