Military Precision for VEKA Installation

When the Ministry of Defence decided to upgrade facilities at the headquarters of the Signal Squadron (Volunteers) at Horfield in Bristol, VEKA fabricator Regent RS Group was chosen through tender as the preferred supplier.

The site has been used for various regiments over the years but since 1995, has been the headquarters for the Signal Squadron of the Territorial Army. The Squadron provides administration to the Regiment, and is the Regimental Command Post for exercises and training resources throughout the year.

The original building was constructed in the late 1940s and is predominantly of brick construction with steel windows. The task to refurbish the building was a challenge as the entire interior had to be gutted and rebuilt to a different configuration, and a large amount of the brickwork had to be either replaced or repointed. In the midst of all the building work, the TA headquarters also had to remain operational.

For the windows, Regent RS of Cheltenham secured the contract with the VEKA Matrix 70 profile. The Matrix fully integrated PVC-U system from VEKA has become a new benchmark for quality in the window and door industry. Its design is the result of massive investment in development, tooling and extrusion technology, meaning that less than 40 profiles can be used to create virtually any style or design of windows and doors in any kind of building.

“We have been using VEKA profiles for five years and are familiar with their durability and reliability,” comments John Krawczyk of Regent. “This was a complex installation in terms of design as a number of additional features were required, including glass that was toughened and laminated on the external face and Georgian bars to emulate the original steel profiles. Using the VEKA profiles, we provided bespoke doors and windows that complement the original design and enhance the appearance of the building. ”

The project took five months to complete with Pearce Construction the main contractors for the entire project, which included not only the exterior work, but also large scale interior compartmentation. The finished result is a stunning transformation into a modern facility that accommodates the TA operations.
