From the boom of the 80s and 90s and overcapacity in the noughties to plenty of firsts for The VEKA UK Group, Sales and Marketing Director Colin Torley marks his 25th Anniversary with VEKA
Following a stint as a builder and roles at Everest and Solaglas, Colin joined VEKA in May 1988 as a Sales Representative for Scotland, where he was instrumental in gaining some of VEKA's largest customers north of the border. He says: “while it was a very hectic time and there were a lot of new businesses coming over to VEKA, it was a relatively slower pace than the business world today. Back then we worked from a modest 30,000 sq ft factory, a small fraction of the 370,000 sq ft and 30 acre site we call home today.”
As Colin's career with VEKA began virtually as it started to manufacture in the UK, he is immensely proud to have shared the journey with the company: “VEKA has been established for almost as long as PVC-U has existed as a building product, and the last 25 years have seen huge investment in to VEKA's buildings, machinery, products and people.
“We have come a long way from windows that were very European in looks, instead, continuing to unveil state-of-the-art systems, including the first ever 'A' rated window and Infinity recycled profile system. Further development is currently taking place in Burnley with the addition of a new mixing plant, which will make it the largest of its kind in the UK. Our plans for developing the product range, with the introduction of new systems over the next few months and years, are not short of breathtaking, and I doubt anyone would come close to matching.”
Having moved from his sales role into a new position as Product Manager in September 2002, Colin moved back into sales as the Sales & Marketing Director in September 2006.
“Over the last 25 years I've seen VEKA and the industry weather many storms, and our roots have now been firmly planted in the UK. I for one am extremely excited to see what we can achieve next, and where VEKA will be in the next 25 years.”
