The decision to crown The FIT Show Sales Professional of the Year came a step closer when the finalists demonstrated their skills on camera and to specially trained actors. The finalists: Nick Trigg from Mid Wales Windows; Ed Burgess from Countryside Home Improvements; and Adrian Phillips from Nolan uPVC were selected from the total entry bag after each had been interviewed by the judges of the first independent national competition ever to be held for professional glazing sales consultants in the UK.
The FIT Show organisers, abetted by renowned home improvement sales training guru Paul Clifton, chose a house in Manchester that was the perfect candidate for bright new windows. They then installed a ‘married couple’, actors that had been specially trained to ask appropriate questions, prompt responses from the sales finalists and to make sure that each had a fair but tough assignment.
The three finalists arrived at the location one by one, together with their samples and brochures and each very keen to pick up the £10,000 cash prize to be split between themselves and their employer. Cameras rolled and they sprung into action, offering performances that included the glib and the grandiose, modest to magnificent. Each had a story to tell of course and each did their very best, in their own amazingly disparate styles, to persuade the ‘homeowners’ and, of course the judges, that their deal was the one to buy.
Paul Clifton said that the skills displayed were exceptional with styles that varied dramatically: “We were very impressed with the skills displayed, especially when it came to the demos. One or two of the candidates showed exceptional technical knowledge and communicated that to the customers in a way that they could assimilate easily. We have chosen a winner, but it was a tough process.”
The videos are in the editing suite and soon readers will be able to view the efforts of the finalists in a special cut and choose their own ’Sales Professional of the Year’. They might even pick up a few pointers of how – or how not – to sell windows.
Longer edits of how each of the finalists fared will be shown at The FIT Show when it takes place in April next year. And the ultimate winner of the £10,000 cash prize will be announced at The FIT Show Gala Dinner and Awards on the evening of 17th April.
