Investment in two new aluminium fabrication machines, supplied by Wegoma, is improving production speed and efficiencies at Stafford Aluminium Window Company Ltd.

With aluminium frame production well over 100 frames per week, the Stafford-based aluminium and PVC-U window, door and conservatory fabricator needed to upgrade machinery to meet customer demand and keep its successful 31-year-old business on track with forecast growth, particularly with aluminium projects in the schools and commercial sectors.

Managing Director Steve Allcock says a rise of 30% in their aluminium business over the past two years prompted the need for additional machines. He describes the EV175 hydro-pneumatic corner crimping and AKF125 end-milling machines as a ‘sensible investment and more cost-effective than anything else on the market’.

He comments: “It was something we needed to do as our existing machines, at well over 20 years old, needed replacing and Wegoma provided the ideal solution. We’re extremely pleased with the corner crimper; it’s the quickest and most fabricator-friendly equipment that we’ve ever used.

“I’m also very impressed with the crimper’s quality, reliability and strength, as well as the ease of tooling and setting the cutters. It is making a huge difference to our output and we cannot fault the level of customer service we received from Wegoma throughout the whole process.”adds Steve, who placed his order after meeting the Wegoma team at Glassex this year.

A major advantage of the EV175 is the concealed anvil within the machine, which sinks below the worktable to allow easy loading of the profile. By keeping the bed free of obstructions, frames are simply slid onto the flat bed from where the crimper rises to do the job.

No additional adjusting of the anvil is required as it automatically positions itself according to the profile width. Ad added bonus is that all the required crimping tools are supplied as standard, with special tools available on request.

Gary Mayer, Wegoma’s Managing Director, concludes: “Wegoma has supplied a range of machinery for aluminium fabrication for many years and the EV175 is one of our best-sellers, offering significant time and cost-savings for fabricators.”
