Grade II listed building with a contemporary glass extension

A Schuco Casement Door and Invisio Structural glazing were used to create a contemporary glass extension on this traditional English cottage. The homeowners of this period property in the countryside sought to create a new functional living space. To bring a modern touch to the property, an aluminium casement door and structural glazing were used to form a contemporary glass extension.
Roof glazing was used to create a bright and welcoming space, this glazing is the perfect way to introduce more natural light into internal living spaces. Glass beams and a horizontal steel beam were used to support the glass roof.
The shaped glass roof elegantly joined the coursed limestone rubble wall of the staircase turret. The glass connection to the wall was carefully designed to ensure it did not alter the towers façade. A red brick semi circle was added to conceal the glasses connection to the tower.
This modern glass extension creates a striking contrast against the existing architecture, separating the old from the new and providing a unique aesthetic. The glazing complements the traditional red brick and natural external building finishes.
Biophilic design elements can be seen in the decorative houseplants, natural stone flooring and vast amount of natural light that flows through the glazing systems. Having that strong connection to nature was vital to the homeowners as the natural beauty of the countryside Emma Greene, the salesperson on this project, said “it's great to see a traditional home like this have a modern element brought in. The glass extension paired with that stunning central tower just creates such a stunning design."
