Crocodile Works with Dempsey Dyer

Trade and commercial fabricator Dempsey Dyer is delighted to be involved in a flagship project at the heart of a plan to regenerate the Newtown area of Birmingham. As part of a £100 million plan supported by Midland Heart, a housing and regeneration organisation, Birmingham City Council and the government’s Urban Living body and Homes and Communities Agency, Newtown’s Crocodile Works is being transformed from a derelict 19th century factory site into high quality, well designed social housing and private homes. The site’s main contractor is William Davis and Dempsey Dyer won the contract to supply the doors and 1100 Secured By Design, tilt only windows needed on the project.

Dempsey Dyer proved to be a wise choice of partner almost immediately because the company was able to make suggestions that will lead to a 30% saving on the original window specification. Due to the building’s history metal windows had originally been foreseen for use in the project. However, Dempsey Dyer were able to suggest a PVC-U alternative that will meet the architects criteria for aesthetics and deliver better levels of insulation whilst offering significant budgetary savings. Manufactured from Deceuninck 3000 Series and 2500 Series Chamfered ranges the profiles are coloured using the unique Deceuninck Decoroc hard surface coating in Anthracite Grey maintaining the looks of the buildings industrial heritage.

These frames offer many of the aesthetic advantages as aluminium or steel windows but have additional benefits too. Most striking is undoubtedly the 30% cost saving – especially welcome on a social housing project. The products come with a comprehensive extended guarantee on the surface coating to further evidence the superiority of the finish which has been used in installations for almost eighteen years, clearly a comfort to the buildings occupants. They also achieve a U value of 1.3, which will make the finished housing more environmentally sustainable and save their owners more money on fuel bills.

Of course, on a project of this size, Dempsey Dyer needs to have the experience necessary to make sure everything runs smoothly. Happily, the company has that experience. Established in 1977, it supplies large and small projects across the country in both the public and private sectors. Equally important was Dempsey’s systems supplier. The company has been working with Deceuninck since 1984 and knows that the company offers both an excellent product range and the exemplary service needed to ensure every project, no matter what its size, runs smoothly. As a result of the experience and commitment of both these companies, the project is on track to complete in the autumn – an astonishing achievement given that the factory was derelict in November 2009!
